From my ‘Small Things’ collection. An ongoing collection of 30 x 30 works, each painting recreating a small and arguably unremarkable snippet of nature encountered in my daily routine. Most are from verge side gardens, nature strips or parks within the urban Fremantle area. ‘Collie River Pea’ however as the name suggests, was inspired by the peas that are abundant along the Collie River, in the Honeymoon Pool area.
These scenes represent something you might pass daily without much thought or consideration. Since I began painting native flora, my gratitude for these small flourishes of nature have grown into something of a ritual appreciation.
These paintings are a celebration of the beauty and diversity of our natives, and serve as a reminder to seek out the remarkable in the mundane and to appreciate the beauty to be found in the small things all around us.
